Knowledge is key
'Ilm (علم)
Upcycled aluminum
Knowledge is the key to success.
The calligraphy of 'ilm flows in a single unbroken gesture—vertical ascent, horizontal resolve, the eye at its heart like a held breath—then extends into the teeth of a key. Not metaphor made literal, but form following truth: what unlocks must have a shape.
Hand-carved in foam, then cast through fire in reclaimed aluminum. The foam surrenders, the metal remembers. The surface carries the honesty of the process. Tool marks, casting grain, the slight warp of heat—these are not flaws but testimony. What was industrial waste now holds a word that has anchored seekers for fourteen centuries.
Laid flat or mounted, the piece changes with its angle. Light pools in the curves, runs sharp along the edges and the key's teeth. It does not shout. It waits to turn.
A piece to remember.
